History/Overview
If you’re intrigued by the VW Golf GTI’s performance but prefer sedans to hatchbacks, then the Jetta GLI is your ride. While it’s not, strictly speaking, a GTI with a trunk, it’s the closest thing VW offers to a sport sedan. The current Jetta GLI arrived in 2019 along with the rest of the redesigned Jetta lineup.
What’s New/Key Changes From Last Year
For 2023, the GLI’s sole change is a new 18-inch wheel design.
Available Trims
VW sells the GLI in a single trim, powered by a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine that comes with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic dual-clutch DSG transmission.
Standard Features
The Jetta GLI’s standard kit includes 18-inch wheels, dynamic chassis control, a differential lock, sport suspension, auto on/off LED headlights/taillights, rain-sensing wipers with de-icer, heated side mirrors, and passive keyless entry.
Inside, the GLI features an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity and charging, navigation, a digital gauge cluster, an auto-dimming mirror, and dual-zone A/C. You also get a power driver’s seat, leather upholstery, ambient lighting, and heated front/rear seats.
Jetta GLI’s safety package comprises blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, forward collision mitigation, and automatic high beams.
Fuel Economy
VW’s fuel consumption estimates are 9.0/6.5 L/100 km (city/highway) with the DSG automatic, and 9.1/6.4 L/100 km for six-speed models.
Competition
The Jetta GLI is Volkswagen’s answer to the Honda Civic Si, Hyundai Elantra N Line, Kia Forte GT Limited, and Mazda3 GT Turbo.
